Overcoming Loneliness

Overcoming Loneliness
In order to overcome loneliness you need to share your emotions and life experiences with other people.
Loneliness is definitely a growing reality in our modern world, but does a temporary feeling accurately depict your entire life? Maybe you have a tight-knit group of friends and family, but just feel lonely in the moment. If that’s the case, try to figure out what brought this feeling on.
Has it been a while since you last saw your friends? Should you call your family to check in with them? Or maybe you need to do some self-reflecting and spend some time alone for a while, just reconnecting with yourself. Are you living your life to the full? What activities could yo be doing to focus your attention positively instead of just being in your head and lonely.
The following are some practises you should take to overcome loneliness:
Spend More Time Outdoors
Try not to spend most of your time alone. If the nature of your work, or you live somewhere remote, which keeps you away from direct contact with people then try to do your best to see people on your weekends.
By going to public places or social events you can increase your chances of meeting people and so reduce your loneliness. If you study a lot then try to study with someone else. The more time you spend alone the more the loneliness feelings will get reinforced.
Go Ride Your Bike Or A Long Walk
Riding your bike or going for a long walk is relaxing, fun, and a great way to see your surroundings. Plan you route or just get out there and get lost. See places you never new existed. You will find your way back, rest assured.
Write A Diary or Journal
Writing is a powerful tool. It can help you identify many different types of feelings, including loneliness. If you’re feeling lonely, start writing. Get your emotions out on paper and start asking yourself how you can create a feeling of connection in your life. Focus on the important. If you don’t have a journal, buy one. Use it to write down your ideas, feelings and action items to foster reflection and make your life better.
Cook A Real Meal
Cooking a good meal can be a meditative experience. It’s a great opportunity to mull over thoughts and lose yourself in a recipe. Think of a meal you would really like to eat. Look on the Internet or in a cookery book. Check out the ingredients you need, what is in your pantry or fridge, list what else you need and go get them from your local shop. Make cooking real meals regularly as part of your daily / weekly routine.
Cooking a real meal is also a perfect excuse to find a dinner date. You may feel lonely when you eat alone. Making dinner for a friend or loved on is the perfect way to create a meaningful connection. Eating with a friend is more fun. You’re more likely to eat slower and less..
Take Photographs Or Videos Or A Sketch Book
Taking photos is a way to notice the details of life. Whenever you walk around with your camera and take photos, get into a zone. Notice the little things, like the morning dew on flowers or a beautiful sunset. For some reason this makes you feel less alone. The world is alive with beauty and has so much to offer. We just have to slow down long enough to notice. If you own a camera, take it everywhere and start taking photos. If you don’t own a camera try sketching in your journal.
Read A Good Book
Go to your library or book store and pick up a good book. Reading is a great way to escape into another world or get creative ideas for your latest project. It’s a frugal way to educate yourself, be inspired and a healthy way to use your time. If you don’t have a library card, go get one and start reading. Make a personal goal to read a book a week or per month.
Connect With Your Community
There are so many ways you can connect with your community, from volunteering, activity clubs, to attending city meetings. Whatever you have a specific interest in, if you research, you will find somewhere locally or in the city, where there be similar activities to participate in. If you look around, you will find that other people with similar interests longing to connect just as much as you do, so don’t hesitate to reach out to them.
Another good action that you could take to overcome loneliness is getting involved into some kind of a project that involves team work. When being involved into such projects you will be obligated to share your ideas, thoughts and even your fears with others. You may also have to attend regular meetings in order to discuss the project’s issues.
Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone
Getting out of your comfort zone is a good thing, it widens your horizons and challenges you. It also enables you to have more interesting conversations with your friends and family. Getting out of your comfort zone is a good thing, it widens your horizons and challenges you. It also enables you to have more interesting conversations with your friends and family.
Set Up A Coffee Date With A Friend
Call a friend and schedule a coffee or dinner date. If you go for a daily walk, ask a close friend to join you. One of the very strong factors that help in overcoming loneliness is emotional honesty. They want company too. Who knows what it might lead on to, another exciting adventure? We all have an intrinsic need to feel accepted by others, and connecting with like-minded people could turn out to be the best decision you’ve made for your mental and emotional health.
Talk To Someone New When You're Out And About
How many times do you notice people’s heads in their phones when you go out in public nowadays? Maybe you have fallen into this habit as well, so try to put away your phone for a change and go up to someone new. Strike up a conversation with the person at the grocery store check-out, or the person waiting at the bus stop, or the jogger at the running trail that you frequent.
You have a chance to connect with someone pretty much anywhere you go; we have a world occupied by more people than ever before, so really, we all don’t have much of an excuse for feeling lonely. It just takes reaching out to someone and not limiting ourselves to our current reality.
Spend Less Time on Technology
We can instantly connect with almost anyone online, but it just doesn’t compare with face-to-face human connection. We can’t hug someone online, or see the change in their facial expressions, or feel the energy of the person through the computer or phone.
Try to limit your technology use to a few hours a day if you can; you will find that you have much more time to bond with your current friends and even make connections with new ones. If you don’t know where to start, first think about the businesses or parks you frequent. You likely talk to the same people at the places you go most often, so why not try to cultivate a friendship with them?
If you talk to people of an older generation, who did not have this abundance of technology as a distraction around them, you will realise how much more they participated in socially, enjoyed simple pleasures and are generally more healthy mentally and physically.
Get To Know Yourself Better
You cannot be lonely if you like the person you’re alone with. Be honest with yourself. You must learn to enjoy your own company before you can truly appreciate the company of others. Otherwise, you will only want to connect with other people out of desperation in an attempt to escape from yourself. You have to go deep within and break all the chains that bind you so that you can finally leave behind any emotional trauma from the past.
You must learn to totally love yourself before anyone else can offer you the same sentiment. Otherwise, you will continue to feel lonely even in a room of thousands, unless you heal your wounds from the inside out. It will seem much easier to connect with others once you’re fully in tune with your own self. Sometimes our feelings don’t always mirror our reality, so make sure to tune into these emotions whenever they arise.
Be Still And Do Nothing
Supposedly being “busy” is a sign of success in this culture. This is not necessarily that’s true. Why are we all in such a hurry? Do we really create beautiful art if we we’re rushing from place to place? And if everyone is so busy, how do we create meaningful connections with others?
Slow down, take your time and start to take your time. Rushing from place to place can be counterproductive. Being busy can sometimes erode our sense of purpose causing us to feel undervalued and lonely.
Set aside 10 minutes a day for meditation, or just sit quietly with a cool drink, maybe put on some relaxing music, and watch the world go by from your balcony. There is always some interesting activity going on, whether its people, the birds or distant sounds. Observe carefully see the characteristics, the auras, the colours or the movements. All these provide focus of mind and away from your own internal thoughts and worries.
The Power Of Solitude
One of the main facts about loneliness is that you become more attached to other people when you experience a problem or a downtime. On the other hand you may feel quite normal on your own if you had no current problems in your life and you may even enjoy your time alone, this is called the power of solitude.
Be More Open With Your Friends
Try to be more open with your friends, tell them about your fears and worries instead of running the usual superficial conversations. If you are afraid to share your emotions then you may have a self confidence problem.
Some people think that telling others that they feel down or depressed makes them weak. This is not true, you are not your emotions. If you feel down, then this doesn’t mean that you are bad and if you are depressed then this doesn’t mean that you are inadequate. It just means that you are a human. Know that normal human beings have down times just like they have up-times. People who claim that they are always superior suffer from an inferiority complex.
Get Into A Relationship
One of the most effective ways to overcome loneliness is getting into a relationship. When you get into a relationship each single aspect of your life will be shared with your partner and so the feelings of loneliness will disappear. The draw back to this solution is that you cannot control the time it happens as there are lots of other variables involved. Its pretty beneficial to know how to make someone fall in love with you so that you can use this information to attract others to you.
Focus Your Attention On Helping Others
By focusing your attention on helping others instead of focusing it on your own feelings will change your viewpoint, emotions and self ego. After all you appreciate when others help and listen to you. So why not you with others? The world would be so different and heavenly, if more people did so. Yet you must make sure you are part of that change, if you want a better world around you.
Take Responsibility For Change
Take responsibility for change, dint simple see others to blame. We see the world around us in turmoil because of greed and power. We think we don't have the will power to it, its too vast a problem. But if everyone thinks that then nothing will ever change.
The Square Root Of One Per Cent
Remember this it takes the square root of one per cent of any given population to change the consciousness of that given population. That's a minuscule of the whole. Yet so powerful. Become that square root of one per cent. Don't sit on the fence, or be like the sheep of the 99.99% only looking after their own interests.
Connect With Other People Less Fortunate Than Yourself
Volunteering makes a great way to both connect with other people, and also take the focus off of yourself. Think about how many people live on the streets everyday with virtually no source of consistent food or water, no safe place to lay their head at night, and no real friendships to support them.
So many people suffer much more than we could ever imagine, and we can all do something to help them. By helping others, you will in turn help yourself, so look for local charities or soup kitchens to volunteer your time at. This will instantly make you forget about any loneliness you may have felt before, and reconnect you to one of the basic foundations of human existence: helping one another.
You Can Overcome Loneliness
Remember we all have more similarities than differences, so you can find a common bond with almost anyone if you try. You can overcome loneliness; all it takes is a commitment to reaching out to others, find and do what you really like doing, love and be comfortable with yourself, learn to be still and the willingness to open your heart to others who long for connection just as you do.
